Veterinary Care in Courtenay for Companion Pets, Equine, Bovine, and Farm Animals

We are delighted to announce the newest addition to our team at the Country Animal Hospital. Dr. Don Deitrick is a dedicated mixed animal practitioner with experience in both large and small animal care.

Originally from Michigan, Dr. Deitrick spent 10 years serving his community as a firefighter and paramedic in Kalamazoo and the surrounding area. He completed his undergraduate studies in biology and wildlife management and subsequently pursued his Bachelor of Veterinary Science studies in New Zealand at Massey University. After graduating with his BVSc in 2021, he moved to the Cariboo region of central British Columbia. He spent three years working in a busy mixed animal practice serving the communities and ranches of William’s Lake and Quesnel.

In May 2025, Dr. Deitrick and his partner moved to the Comox Valley to join us at the Country Animal Hospital. With a strong background in both large and small animal medicine, Dr. Deitrick is committed to providing high-quality veterinary services including routine surgery, preventative care, diagnostics, equine and small animal dentistry, elective and emergency treatments tailored to the diverse needs of our clients.

His experience covers a broad range of species, enabling us to continue serving our communities’ companion small animals, horses, cattle and smaller livestock such as sheep, goats, pigs and chickens with expertise and compassion. Dr Deitrick has also developed a strong interest in equine dentistry.
